This expression is described by the distillers as 'the heart of our range.' Matured in virgin oak, Pedro Ximénez, and oloroso casks. Oily on the nose, with ripe banana and a hint of oak. Quite full-bodied and slick on the palate, with vanilla, honey, and almonds. Milk chocolate and lime in the medium-length finish. (GS, Winter 2018)
The GlenAllachie Distillery was built in 1967 outside of Aberlour. It quietly produced fine single malt without much fanfare until its closure by Invergordon Distillers in 1987. Eventually, the distillery was sold to Pernod Ricard and began churning out malt again for their range of blends focused mainly on the French market. Because of the popularity of those blends, it was almost never seen as a single malt, but in 2017 the distillery and its stock were sold to former Glendronach/BenRiach master distiller Billy Walker and a group of industry insiders. Mr. Walker has revamped the whiskies and truly brought them into their own. Finally, we have this wonderfully fruity, rich, and powerful Speysider on the market at last and showing its best.
