This is a very recognizable cabernet with lots of fresh herbs, eucalyptus, garrigue, blackberry leaf, blackcurrant compote, cedar, tobacco and vanilla. Full body, juicy and round tannins and a round finish. Drink in 2023.

The same as with other 2016s, the 2016 San Juan de Pirque Vineyard feels fresher than the 2015. That seems to be a pattern here. The 2015 has a more developed nose, but I like this very much; it's a little more austere. It shows great typicity and balance. 5,055 bottles produced from a blend of 11 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon and one barrel of Cabernet Franc. (LG)

K&L Notes
Derek Mossman is up to some truly interesting things on the Chilean wine scene. Whether it's dry farmed Maule Pais, old vine Cinsault, Maipo Cabernet, or this singular Carignan, the man is making very interesting wines and raising the qualitative bar, focusing on terroir and maximum fruit expression. By identifying some of Chile's most interesting vineyards and working very minimally in the cellar to allow the fruit to shine, Garage Wine Company is producing some great examples of authentic vino chileno.
Pirque is a Sub Appellation in the Alto Maipo, the part of the Region closest to the Andes. It is South and East of Santigo, practically a suburb, that is located at the base of the Andes with vineyards starting around 1500ft. With soils that are a mixture of coluvial and alluvial and a warm daytime temperatures balanced by the cool air off of the towering Andes this is one of the great terroirs for Bordeaux varietals.
