2007 Thiénot "Black Ball" Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne (Previously $120)

SKU #1404303

Absolutely incredible opportunity on this creamy, supple Blanc de Blancs that still has great focus and precision and superior, long, mineral finish. Like all of the Thienot vintage wines, this bottling is entirely estate grown from the family's nearly 70 acres of vines. From the winery: "In 1985 Alain Thiénot launched his eponymous Champagne House, driven by his experience as a courtier and close-knit relationships with Champagne growers. This was quite a challenge in a sector where the greatest names began their existence as early as the 18th century. Never willing to compromise on quality or expertise, Alain Thiénot has transformed this vision into one of his key strengths. From this point forwards, using a strategy targeting the gastronomy sector, he has successfully conquered markets in France and abroad. He has passed on this passion and vision to his children, Garance and Stanislas, who decided to join the family business in 2003. With its resolutely modern philosophy, the most recently established, privately owned and family-run Champagne House continues its expansion."

The Black Ball is not only an amazing way to support a fine children's charity, it's a absolutely lovely high-end Champagne at a great price. With aromatics and flavors of brioche, light spice and laced with gentle honeysuckle, the Champagne is both complex and elegant in style with an unmistakable feeling of pedigree. And for good reason: the fruit came from one of the most famous, super high-end Champagne houses, which sold off some parcels in three Grand Cru villages at a time when they needed cash flow. The style is wonderfully different but the quality is immediately evident
Top Value!

This is a rich, creamy style of vintage blanc de blancs with bright fruit notes of pear and apple, honeysuckle, toast and intriguing notes of spice. This is great champagne aged to perfection!

This Champagne is composed of juice from all old vine Grand Cru grapes on property that used to belong to Krug right in the Cotes de Blanc… so you know they’re working with great land and great fruit. The nose is earthy, almost a little sandy toned, but there’s also good fresh fruit here with scents of citrus peel and Golden Delicious apples. The mouthfeel is soft and supple with a great apple/pear balance that becomes more intense in fruitiness and even borders on tropical flavors before coming to a gradual vanilla finish.

I had the opportunity to taste this elegant Blanc de Blanc along with a slew of other Blanc de Blancs earlier this week. The Black Ball stood out for its silky texture and rich character. Plush, with lemon cream and lemon curd scents and flavors. A touch of nectarine and pastry dough adds interest to the overall character. A very nice finish that has balanced acidity (how did they do that in this high acid vintage?) and soft minerality. A great B de B to drink by itself or to have with shrimp, chicken or pork. A very easy (and super delicious!) way to support the Black Ball charity!

This wine is all about the party! A flamboyant nose leads you into a luscious and soft texture filled with golden fruits drizzled with a tiny bit of honey for that touch of richness. Despite being from the 2007 vintage, the overall character of this wine is fresh and zippy, and would be perfect served during any festivity!

A very good grower friend of mine from the Aube, far away from the Cotes de Blancs said to me once that Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is like a marionette; delicate, precise, elegant and full of hidden complexity. This Thiènot matches that description perfectly, with a soft, round, texture and an airy feel that one could never tire of. The Champagne has beautiful brioche aromas and flavors that transport me to the best bakeries in France, while the wine is balanced by subtle meyer lemon flavors and a subtle, but ultimately fresh minerality. This was an excellent Champagne at $120. It is a steal now!

Ripe fruit aromatics with a good amount of acid and hints of vanilla custard notes on the palate. Bright, fresh and a nice texture, this champagne would be a great way to start a fête! A great value for a high end champagne.

Alain Thienot has offered up some pretty lovely bubbles with Black Ball. Originally offered at double this price, this is an amazing Champagne at an amazing offer. Rich nose of biscuits buttered with fleur de sel and a lovely ripe tropical fruit palate. Awesome.

Hilariously easy to drink, the Black Ball is a quintessential crowd-pleaser, while still strutting premium quality. With a soft custard edge that melts away to soft citron, this is a top tier toast candidate, but also would bring out the best in shortbread cookie, or, if you're feeling especially decadent, Southern Fried Chicken.

100% Grand Cru Chardonnay This vintage of Black Ball is nice and toasty with notes of buttercream, a hint of popcorn and lovely meringue. With the deal we will be offering on this one I can't see a reason you wouldn't need a bottle or two!
