2017 Hahn "SLH" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

SKU #1403303 91 points Wine Enthusiast

Tart and candied berry aromas meet with tangy pomegranate and hibiscus on the nose. The palate combines more cranberry and pomegranate flavors with dried herbs, all framed by energetic acidity and firm tannins. *Editors’ Choice* (MK) (5/2019)

Connoisseurs Guide

As fruity as it is ripe and nicely focused on dark cherries all the way from first nosing through to its lingering, lightly tannin-firmed finish, this full and wide-open wine emphasizes the juicy aspects of Pinot above all else but gets a slight lift in sweetness from its well-managed complement of mildly creamy oak. Not as complex as it is out-and-out fruity, it arguably has room for a couple years of growth, yet there is nothing about it that interferes with enjoyable drinking right now. (9/2019)

K&L Notes

Nicky Hahn, who founded Hahn Family Wines and released its first vintage in 1980, led the effort to establish the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County as its own distinct appellation. The SLH was approved as an AVA in 1991 and these wines demonstrate the appellation's best qualities. Winery notes: "Hahn SLH Pinot Noir has aromas of bright cherry, hints of earth, mushroom, and toasty oak. Concentrated flavors of red fruit and spice."
