K&L Notes

Terra Santa is made at the UVIB cooperative on the eastern side of Corsica, near Lake Diane - one of the local lagoons known for its oyster and mussel cultivation. The whisper of sea air and the clay sedimentary soils leave their mark on the grapes, giving loads of white flower, citrus and stone fruit notes. The wine is made in stainless steel tanks to preserve maximum freshness and is a perfect pairing with lighter dishes, fresh cheeses and some of those great mussels from the local lagoon (or your fishmonger).

I've found my new favorite warm weather white! The flavorful, orchard fruit appeal of Chardonnay married to the acacia blossom and lemony zest of Vermentino, all given a salt-inflected Mediterranean spin from their beautiful home near the Corsican coast. This glistening diadem of a white wine fits the bill and crisply defines the expression, "Chill!"

Light, spry with zippy bits of white pepper, the nose here is dead-on for a Mediterranean White. The texture here is almost like spring water--refreshing, light, and incredibly clean. Yet there is also an undeniable minerality: wet stones laced with citrus elements and lemon zest. This is absolutely perfect for a scorching hot day. What a perfect little gem of a wine.

Corsica is the perfect bridge between France and Italy. This is a wine to prove that point. It is half Macon and half Southern Italian. On the lighter side of medium bodied, this wine has the mid-palate of a Macon with the expressiveness of a Campanian white. Crisp with cool fruit tones and a subtle mineral element, this is a summer sipper for sure.

IF YOU LOVE SAUVIGNON BLANC, THEN THIS IS YOUR FRIEND! this wine is a blend of Chardonnay and Vermentino from Corsica. It will offer lively aromas of pear, white peach, lime and pink grapefruit with subtle notes of crushed rocks and citrus zest. On the palate. it is dry, crisp and oh so perfect for upcoming hot summer days! I paired this wine with Roasted Chicken and Potatoes in Saffron Sauce and it was exciting and perfect!

The wines of Corsica are on the rise but many have already priced themselves into the stratosphere. That's one of the reasons why I love working with the UVIB co-op on the eastern side of the island. They make the Terra Santa wines, already a K&L favorite with their rose, and the Petroni wines. The UVIB has the facility and winemaking staff that can make great regional wines of character that don't break the bank. The Terra Santa a blend of Vermentinu and Chardonnay that is filled with vibrant stone fruit and refreshing tropical flavors. It is clean and crisp and wonderfully bundled together for a very modest price. If you haven't already jumped on the Corsican bandwagon, this is one of the best places to hop on!

With summer up and coming, pink wine and crisp whites will be in favor and Terra Santa's, Ile de Beaute will fulfill the latter. Nice crisp citrus notes reminds me of Sicilian lemon and fresh spring flowers. This Corsican white is made of 60% Vermentino and 40% Chardonnay and is at a great price for a refreshing wine that will be perfect for your weekends on the porch, boat, poolside or any other sun-drenched areas you may find yourself.

Country:

France

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
Sub-Region:

Provence

- Provence encompasses the southeastern portion of France that borders the Mediterranean. The largest appellation in the region is the Cotes de Provence that spans 49,600 acres of land in and around Marseilles. Thirteen different varietals are grown in this appellation with the most important grapes being Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, and Mouvedre. While much of the production is dry rose, there are many more serious wines being made from the area. Some of the most important smaller appellations within Provence include Bandol, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, and Coteaux Varois.
