K&L Notes

Fabien Collange is a young winemaker from Beaujoalis. We met him on our recent trip to the region and he presented us with a rosé of Gamay that absolutely knocked our socks off. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking: his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable. This is a wine that's fresh, crisp, and clean on the palate with a supple weight and pure flavors of fresh strawberries and spice. This is the affordable rosé you need a case of for the warm months, and maybe a few bottles for the pleasanter fall evenings, as well.

Although I drink far more red wines from Beaujolais, the same juicy Gamay grape can find a happy haven in their delicious, terroir-driven rosés. Winemaker Fabien Collonge makes a wonderfully food-friendly Morgon, and his rosé equally captivates with aromas of peony and violet enhanced by vibrant, crisp flavors of summery strawberries, black currants and cherries. Pair with everything from mild cheeses to charcuterie. I found it particularly good with a cold chicken salad with water chestnuts. Drink up!

This is such a delicious wine. Gamay is such a pleasing varietal, with its tasty fruit profile and versatility with practically any food. From it's pretty pink hue to the bright red berry flavors and long, crisp finish this is a fantastic wine from the superb 2018 vintage. Stop buying the same ol' Provencal rosé and try something new! Rosé de Gamay toute la journée!
