The special rums from Nicaragua's great cane estate use cane harvested exclusively from the volcanic soils around Chichigalpa. Compania Licorera de Nicaragua dates back to 1937, but cane has been harvested for rum production at the base of the San Cristobal Volcano since at least the 1890s. During the Nicaraguan revolution the distillery amassed huge stocks of aging rums and now controls some of the oldest stocks of rum in the world. Their top of the line 25 year old product was aged entirely in charred white oak barrels that previously held bourbon. Every single drop is aged for more than two and a half decades and this bottle is rightfully considered one of the most special Spanish style rums available anywhere. The outrageous pricing will not last forever and represents an incredible opportunity for aficionados looks for deep complex rums suited to sip or pair with a fine cigar.
