2014 Aldrich Browne "Perli Vineyard" Mendocino Ridge Syrah (Previously $35)

SKU #1397192

This Syrah is grown in a cool climate, and has open, perfumed aromatics with black berry fruit, cassis, and sage on the nose. On the palate it transitions to medium body with fresh acidity, mild tannin and a long follow through. Loads of concentrated blueberry fruit complement the slightly earthy notes that come into play on the close. We highly recommend this with roasted lamb dishes, and smoked game. Winemaker's notes: "Lots of spice and all things nice! Dark chocolate and coffee notes. Perhaps with a hint of bay leaf and clove. These wines have the tendency to age really well. Enjoyed on its own or with a hearty savory dish...lamb casserole? Perli Vineyard sits at an elevation of 1,800 feet above the coastal fog line. The vines are dry-farmed and grow in very rocky soils and on steep slopes. The fruit is then vinified at Peay Vineyards in Cloverdale, CA. We ferment in open top tanks perfect for Syrah. We keep intervention to a minimum as the main goal is varietal expression. Ageing is in 100% neutral oak predominantly 500L puncheons (we love these!)."

The 2014 Aldrich Browne “Perli Vineyard” Syrah is a cool climate Syrah lover's dream. I get loads of blackberry, blueberry, boysenberry, and even huckleberry (just for the Montana folk). The winemaker gets dark chocolate and coffee notes, so I’ll include them in this review. The '14 has a light to medium tannins, medium to low abv, minimal r.s. and light oak. Just balanced and easy drinking. If you’re looking for an extracted, sweet, or grippy Syrah, then this might not be it. Overall, this is a very nice and reasonably priced Syrah coming out of Mendocino Ridge.
