2006 Privé "Le Sud" Yamhill County Pinot Noir

SKU #1396334

From the PinotFile: "Mark and Tina Hammond hand craft their Pinot Noirs from two acres of vines planted on their estate on Chehalem Mountain. He manages the vineyard and she crafts the wines. They are fastidious growers and vintners. Tina is largely a self-taught winemaker who has traveled to Burgundy. She took a number of winemaking classes in Salem, Oregon taught by "gurus," but she just seems to have a natural talent for winemaking. The Hammonds bought a run-down house and 2-acre vineyard planted to Miller-Thurgau. The 20-acre property is adjacent Medici. They grafted the vines over to Pommard Pinot Noir. Initially they sold their grapes to Patricia Green and launched their own label with the 2001 vintage. They bottle three wines, Le Sud from the south 1 acre, Le Nord from the north 1 acre, and Joie de Vivre, a reserve. Quantities are miniscule and demand is high. Typically, the 100% Pommard clone grapes are 100% de-stemmed and aged in 100% new French oak barrels (Seguin Moureau). Production is extremely small with the 2-acre vineyard yielding 1.5 to 2 tons per acre. Tina also crafts other varietals that are more available. The wines are sold only through a mailing list. One of my favorite Oregon producers, hands-down."
