Outpost's 2011 Petite Sirah The Other is fabulous. Rich, powerful and explosive, the 2011 is a real stunner. White pepper, blood orange, black fruit and savory herbs all flesh out in the glass and never let up. A structured, dense wine with plenty of tannin, the 2011 dazzles for its purity and personality. Another year or two in bottle should help the tannins soften a touch. Drinking Window: 2013-2026 (AG) (11/2013)
The limited production (175 cases) 2011 Petite Sirah The Other is made from 100% Petite Sirah, the most underrated, ageworthy varietal in California. Displaying a color that looks like pen ink, it is a meaty, northern Rhone-like effort revealing aromas of pepper and aged beef intermixed with a hint of smoky barbecue in the background. Deep and full-bodied with blue and black fruits dominating, this monster 2011 needs 5-8 years to develop more nuances. It should last for a minimum of two decades. (RP) (10/2013)
