 The 2014 Pinot Noir Comptche Ridge Vineyard is the most expressive of these wines, as it so often is. Freshly cut rose petals, mint, white pepper and sweet red berries are all woven together in a delicate, exquisite wine graced with superb finesse. The 2014 literally floats on the palate, with lovely aromatic presence and fabulous balance. The clonal mix is two-thirds Swan and one-third Pommard. (AG)  (2/2016)

According to Antonio Galloni: "The Weir brothers own Comptche Ridge, a remote, dry-farmed site in Anderson Valley. Anthony Filiberti farms the vineyard and makes the wine, half of which is bottled under Filiberti's Anthill Farms label, while the other half is bottled under the Comptche Ridge Vineyards label. The wines are identical. More importantly, though, Comptche Ridge is emerging as a site capable of yielding exquisite and distinctive Pinots."

This is a very well done Pinot Noir that we happen to have a great deal on right now. The Pinot is more savory than fruity in style, with lots of mineral content, with almost bloody, iron-rich notes and dark cherry fruit, tied to savory spices. Medium body and precise finish. This Pinot is full of intrigue and layered flavor.

Another completely ludicrous deal on top-notch California Pinot Noir. As before with the now sold out 2013, this is stunningly attractive, layered, bright, complex wine from a vineyard quickly becoming known as one of the best in Northern California for this fickle varietal. Made by Anthony Filiberti of Anthill Farms but bottled under the grower's own eponymous label, Comptche Ridge. Leaping from the glass with floral tones and Chinese five-spice, this is packed full of brambly fruit, ripe red berries, and savory redwood forest accents. Medium bodied with lovely weight and palate presence. Vibrant, juicy acidity gives clarity and freshness to the finish. It's really starting to come into its own after a few years in bottle but a long glorious future seems pretty much assured. This is gonna go fast (again)...you've been warned...when it's gone it's gone.

The 2014 Comptche Ridge is a thing of beauty. It is more fruit forward than the '12 or '13 but still retains great structure. This wine has layers upon layers of bright red fruit, cherry cola, mint, and spice. It might be more ostentatious compared to the other vintages, yet it’s perfectly balanced. It’s easy to forget you’re drinking a $19 wine.

The 2014 Comptche Ridge Pinot Noir is a very expressive wine. you get bright red fruit and rose petals on the nose, on the palate you get strawberry, a touch of mint. this wine has perfect acidity to pair with food and the finish spicy and savory. This is definitely a fantastic wine especially for the very low price of $19.99.

Pinot Noir

- One of France's most legendary grapes and the grape that earned Burgundy its reputation. The parent of varietals like Pinot Gris/Grigio and Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir is blue to violet to indigo in color with relatively thin skins, and it is said to have been cultivated in France for more than 2,000 years. At its best, Pinot Noir creates elegant wines that are filled with primary red fruit aromas and flavors while young, revealing with an array of secondary characteristics like earth, smoke, violet, truffle and game with age. The varietal is also known, perhaps better than any, for its ability to translate terroir, or a sense of place. While the best Pinot Noir still comes from Burgundy, it is being produced with increasing success in cooler climates around the world. In France, it is part of the trifecta of grapes that can go into Champagne, and it is also grown in Alsace, Irancy, Jura, Savoie, Lorraine and Sancerre. Outside of France it is produced under the names Pinot Nero and Blauburgunder in Italy's mountainous regions, as Spätburgunder in Germany and as Blauburgunder in Austria. In the US, Pinot Noir has found suitable growing conditions in the cooler parts of California, including Carneros, the Russian River Valley, the Anderson Valley, the Sonoma Coast, Monterey County, the Santa Lucia Highlands and Santa Barbara County, as well as in Oregon's Willamette Valley. In recent years, New Zealand has demonstrated its ability to interpret this hard-to-grow varietal, with successful bottlings coming from careful and attentive growers in Central Otago, Martinborough and Canterbury. Chile is also an up-and-coming region for Pinot Noir, creating fresh, fruit-forward, early-drinking and affordable Pinots from the coastal Casablanca Valley and the Limari Valley.
