The 2014 Zinfandel Signal Fire Vineyard emerges from an 8-acre, old gnarly-vine parcel of Zinfandel in Calistoga. This is a great Zinfandel--rich, with blackberry and briary fruit, pepper, graphite and spice, meaty, rich, very full-bodied and super-concentrated. Both of the 2014 Zinfandels from Venge Vineyards are no shy children at 15.3% alcohol, but are incredibly well-balanced and concentrated. (12/2016)
Signal Fire Vineyard notes from the producer: "This vineyard sits in the center crown of Northern Calistoga and is a testament to the historical significance of Heritage Zinfandel vines that were once planted prolifically throughout California. Planted in the early 1900’s, the old vines on this property are dry farmed and head trained in the old-school style, producing just under one-ton to the acre."
