Even better and one prodigious Syrah, the 2010 Intrepid (100% Syrah) dishes out smoking notes of dark crushed berries, spring flower, coffee bean, edgy minerality and hints of chocolate that flow to a full-bodied, layered and multi-dimensional wine that carries its richness and depth effortlessly. Serious stuff, it is a classic Paso Robles Syrah that should not be missed! (JD)

The 2010 Law Estate Wines Intrepid is 100% Syrah aged all in French oak. Deep, dense, and more reticent than both the Beguiling and Sagacious samples, it possesses an inky color to go with direct aromas of graphite, crème de cassis, smoked meats, and earth. Very classic and structured, with solid concentration, excellent freshness, and notable balance, this serious Syrah will need 2-3 years in the cellar, and should age gracefully for a number of years. There’s loads of potential here and this will be worth the effort to track down.

Connoisseurs Guide
Those who obsessively check the label for alcohol content may be summarily scared away here, but this bottling proves that high ripeness and real fruit and fine balance can indeed co-exist, and it never gives a clue that it checks in at 16.2% abv. It leads with a deep, surprisingly exuberant nose of ripe berries, creamy oak and precise peppery spice, and its ample, very rich flavors, while deep and extracted, are directed by fruit rather than by runaway ripeness. It is tannic and a bit unruly now, but it will find better manners with age, and we anticipate that it will be in fine form in three to five years. *Two Stars*

Deeply pitched aromas of dark berry liqueur and cherry-cola, with licorice and Indian spice notes adding complexity. Smooth, palate-coating black and blue fruit flavors show impressive depth, opening slowly to reveal floral and bitter chocolate qualities. Fine-grained tannins build with air and carry through a long, sweet, penetrating finish. This is still a baby. (JR) 91+
