Outer quote mark Really lovely cherries and brambly raspberries, graphite and red flowers on the nose, leading to a rich and dark, deep, plush and spicy palate that has a very pure core of satiny, silky fruit flavor. Drink now. Inner quote mark (1/2018)

Outer quote mark The 2016 Pinot Noir “Willamette Valley” from Nicolas-Jay is a lovely young wine, offering up impressive sappiness and precision in its bouquet of red and black cherries, a bit of beetroot, a fine base of soil, woodsmoke, hints of mustard seed and thyme and a very well-done framing of spicy new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very nicely balanced, with a sappy core, fine transparency, ripe, seamless tannins and a long, tangy and nascently complex finish. This is so well-balanced that it is quite easy to drink in its youth, but the wine has plenty waiting in the wings and I would recommend letting it build in complexity with some bottle age. Fine, fine juice. Drink between 2021-2055. 92+ Inner quote mark (1/2018)

Outer quote mark Young and a bit chewy, this brings a nicely-layered mix of orange peel, almond paste, black cherry, sassafras and cola, all in good propor- tion. Those wellintegrated components are further highlighted with a streak of iron ore and graphite. The complexity is already impressive, and seems sure to improve with age. Drink now through 2030. *Cellar Selection* (PG) Inner quote mark (1/2019)

K&L Notes

Nicolas-Jay is the story of a three-decade friendship between famed Burgundian winemaker Jean-Nicolas Meo and visionary music entrepreneur Jay Boberg, and their shared love of Oregon Pinot Noir. Winery note: "In the glass, the 2016 Willamette Valley is a focused wine, revealing a darker nose than the previous vintage, with black cherry and plum accented by hints of violet, dried herb and bay laurel. The palate is supported by a backbone of racy acidity which lingers long into the finish, and offers bright red fruit along with savory herbs, olive, and a saline edge. The wine will benefit from decanting in the short-term, and will mature in bottle for 10-15 years. This wine is sourced almost exclusively from biodynamic, organic, and LIVE certified vineyards."
