2017 Domaine des Senechaux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

SKU #1390654 92 points Jeb Dunnuck

I’ve always loved the white from this estate, and the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc doesn’t disappoint. Based on 36% Roussanne, 30% Clairette, 25% Grenache Blanc and the balance Bourboulenc, this medium-bodied, fresh, vibrant white excels on its purity and elegance and offers classic notes of white peach, pineapple cream, and white flowers. Light yellow-gold. Fresh orange, pear and succulent floral qualities on the energetic nose, along with deeper candied ginger and honey flourishes. Silky and focused in the mouth, offering incisive, refreshing citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a touch of smoky minerality. The mineral note carries strongly through a long, penetrating finish that shows excellent clarity and closing bite. (JR) (10/2018)

The 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc is a clean, refreshing example of the appellation's whites. A blend of 36% Roussanne, 30% Clairette, 25% Grenache Blanc and 9% Bourboulenc, partially aged in barrel, it's full-bodied and plump but delivers lime and tangerine flavors, supported by a silky mouthfeel and a long, mouthwatering finish. Other White Wines

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
