2017 Domaine de Verquière Côtes-du-Rhône

The Verquière estate has been passed down from father to son for many generations and is now managed Thibaut Chamfort. Following age-old traditions and sustainable practices, the estate was recently certified organic. The Côtes-du-Rhône is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, grown on chalky clay soils with loads of large pebbles in the vineyards. Verquière recently returned to us after a long hiatus and we are pleased to have them back.

This outstanding Rhone red just seems to improve with each successive vintage and the 2017 is my favorite to-date. It offers up plenty of spicy red Grenache fruit flavors enveloped by am ample dollop of Syrah that broadens the palate and weight and delicious dark fruit. It's a lot of wine at a very modest price and one of our finest Rhone values.

Who does not want a bright, plummy, easy but not boring, tasty and inexpensive wine? I know I do! and lucky for you K&L is here to have that kind of wine for you as well. This blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah grown in a chalky clay soil. It is a fabulous crowd pleaser and it is wonderful with or without food.

Verquiere CDR is a staple at K&L for a reason. It’s made by 3rd generation winemaking brothers from entirely estate-grown, organic fruit that’s completely destemmed and aged in steel vats for pure, blueberry, plum fruit, silky tannins and subtle lifting acidity on the finish. This is easily the best value in red wine in the store! Great for a summer BBQ!

This incredible Côtes du Rhône is 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, grown in chalky clay soils, which give this stunning red lift and minerality. Plus, there's copious spicy red fruit. This entry-level member of the Verquière lineup is overt and immediately accessible but still has all the classic structure that keeps the wine focused. It is one of our best values in the store and a longtime favorite. So excited the new vintage is here!

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
