The 2015 Château Desmirail shows how good 2015 was for the appellation of Margaux. Offering classic red fruits (some cassis as well), toasted bread, white chocolate and background oak, this beauty is medium to full-bodied, elegant and polished on the palate, with ultra-fine tannin. With the telltale elegance and nuance of the appellation, it needs 2-3 years to integrate its oak and then will shine for at least 10-15 years.

After a so-so 2014, the excellent 2015 Château Desmirail makes amends. It comes with a very comely, feminine and perfumed nose brandishing a whole bunch of rose petals in the glass. The palate is very well balanced, fleshy but still structured with fine grain tannin. It feels a little oaky towards the finish, but that should be subsumed with 4-5 years in bottle. (NM)

The 2015 Desmirail has a nicely detailed bouquet with blackberry, briary and iris aromas, gaining intensity in the glass, a Margaux with commendable presence. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is saline in the mouth, quite brine-like towards the finish but I appreciate the length and persistence here. This fulfils the promise that it showed out of barrel and constitutes one of the longer-term Margaux wines. (NM)

Lovely, with crushed plum, boysenberry and blackberry fruit inlaid seamlessly with warmed anise, singed mesquite, Lapsang souchong tea and sandalwood notes. The fine-grained finish flows wonderfully. Best from 2022 through 2035. (JM)

Quite some smoky oak and a hint of caramel in here, but there are also some nice powdery tannins to balance the richness. Fair length. Drink or hold.
