Chewy and rich with attractive cherry and dried-strawberry character, as well as intense tannins. Dried flowers, too. This is traditional and structured. Very tight. Needs time to soften.

Sitting at 600 metres above sea level and surrounded by forest, Fontodi's vineyards in the area of Lamole are much cooler than the estate's holdings in Panzano. Even in 2017, harvest didn't begin until October. It emerges from it shell slowly then offers an exquisite bouquet of fresh flowers and herbs. There is great focus here and an invigorating backbone of acidity piercing through dark currants. At the moment, tannins are still firm and imposing. Give this another year in the bottle. (MM)

Vinous
The 2017 Chianti Classico Filetta di Lamole is absolutely gorgeous. In 2017, the Filetta di Lamole has a bit more body than usual because of the warmth of the year, and yet it retains its classic sense of energy and mid-weight structure. Crushed red berry, spice, mint, licorice and rose petal all open up in this super-expressive, inviting Chianti Classico. (AG)

Earthy aromas of truffle, camphor and blue flower mingle with whiffs of new leather. Smooth and supple, the rounded, savory palate offers fleshy black cherry, baking spice and smooth, polished tannins. (KO)

Mid ruby. Soft sour-cherry nose with minerally hints. Gripping cherry fruit that is finely balanced. Great length and style. Ready now but will hold. 17/20 points (WS)
