2016 Puygueraud, Francs-Côtes de Bordeaux

SKU #1385322 94 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark This is so good! I want to drink it now. Iodine, mushrooms, dark fruit and orange peel on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, yet polished and fresh. Lovely tension. A blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. Inner quote mark (2/2019)

90 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark This has a good juicy core of red currant and damson plum fruit flecked with mouthwatering savory and tobacco notes through the finish. (JM) Inner quote mark (3/2019)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Nicolas Thienpont. Rich nose and real active freshness. Lots to like. So compact and well balanced. Maybe not the concentration and tannin for a very long life but excellent in the short term. *Very Good Value* (JR) Inner quote mark (4/2017)

Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Puygueraud comes bursting out of the glass with notions of red and black currants, blackberries and dried Provence herbs with a hint of charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, it has a good core of fruit and a savory finish. (LPB) Inner quote mark (11/2018)

This is a classic example of the 2016 vintage in Bordeaux in that it is fruity, weighty and rich yet maintains freshness and precision. Dark plum, red berries and charcoal waft from the glass when this is poured and grow in intensity as the wine takes air. This is modern in a good way, showing plenty of fruit in the middle and a fine finish with a clean, tight grip.
