2016 Thymiopoulos "Young Vines" Xinomavro Naousa

SKU #1383500 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2016 Xinomavro Young Vines is unoaked and comes in at 13.5% alcohol. There were 150,000 bottles produced. This is always a fun bottling, but it does seem to have become a bit more accessible of late, perhaps also a bit truer to the concept of an easy-drinking Xinomavro. On the other hand, it isn't as interesting or as structured. Tasty, fruity, a bit thin but rather filled with flavor, this is a lot closer to a Beaujolais that some earlier versions were. This lacks much intensity of concentration, but it is an easy-to-like summer red. It will be benefit by being drunk young and a little cooler than normal. (MS) (6/2018)

Greece

- We have the Greeks to thank for introducing wine into Italy and France. And while the legacy of ancient Greek culture lives on, little recognition is given to its modern-day contributions to the wine industry. From the Peloponnese in the south, to Macedonia and Epirus in the north, and islands like Crete, Samos and Santorini, fine wine is once again being made and most of it from indigenous grape varieties not grown in other countries. Styles range from hearty, rustic reds to crisp, neutral whites and heavenly dessert wines.
