Wine Enthusiast

Located to the west of Castillon-la-Bataille, this vineyard is close in geography and style to Saint-Émilion. It delivers a rich texture from the ripe Merlot as well as generous, warm berry fruits. At the same time, the wine has a light touch of acidity and a crisp aftertaste. Drink this poised wine from 2021. (RV) (5/2018)

I'm convinced that sales of this wine will pick up dramatically once customers begin to open bottles and taste this sleeper. It's made predominantly from Merlot so there's plenty of fruit richness and concentration as well as freshness from some youthful acidity and ripe, sweet tannins. Hyot is an outstanding Bordeaux buy that's certain to impress.

The daughters of owners Bernadette Faure and Alain Aubert oversee vineyards, winemaking and marketing of this fine value Bordeaux. This is a ripe, fruity wine with its black-currant fruit and balanced sweet tannins. It has a fine elegant texture and like other 2015s it is very forward with ripe tannins. The 2014 was a huge hit-this is as good.

We started selling this to much acclaim back in 2017, and it seems to have gotten even better with just the little extra bottle age it has had. Like many 2015s it has such a soft supple character, with subtle flavors of baking spice, ripe cherries and strawberries, but with definite structure from the round juicy tannins. This is unbelievably enjoyable for the price.

Additional Information:

Varietal:

Merlot

- A very popular red grape variety found in the great wines of St. Emilion and Pomerol. It is the most planted variety in Bordeaux, and it has also become an extremely fashionable red in many regions including California. Although it has a reputation to be smooth, and easy to drink when young, Merlot is also capable of producing extremely intense wines as well. It is often used as a blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon.
Country:

France

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
