2016 Gainey Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $30)

SKU #1381665 93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark This is a stellar wine, especially considering it is simply the family's appellation blend. Aromas of crisp black raspberry, thyme, sagebrush and mint provide tremendous depth on the nose. The palate is lively, elegant and very smooth, showing white pepper, cedar and more black-raspberry flavors. *Editor's Choice* (MK) Inner quote mark (10/2018)

Outer quote mark The 2016 Pinot Noir is fabulous. Bright, floral and lifted, with striking fruit presence, the 2016 Pinot delivers serious quality for the money. Bright red and purplish stone fruit, mint, orange zest and lavender are all bright in the glass. Not only is the 2016 delicious, it is absolutely a stellar value. (AG) Inner quote mark (9/2018)

91 points Wine & Spirits

Outer quote mark A pinot that starts out Sta. Rita dark, from fruit through to the soil and mineral notes, this opens to a light-beam of flavor, with a dusting of minerals and a succulent texture. The combination feels exotic and deeply engaging. Inner quote mark (4/2019)

Gainey is truly a stalwart in Santa Barbara County. This 4th generation farming family have been integral to the growth of premium wine from the region. With estate plantings dating back to the early 1980's, the Gainey family have been instrumental in forging the excellent reputation of Sta. Rita Hills grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. When you look at the price tag on this estate grown and bottled, Sta. Rita Hills AVA wine you might be surprised by how inexpensive it is! But don't be fooled, this is the real deal, cool-climate Pinot that defines the region. Bright red fruits, bramble, dusty spice, juicy acidity from the cool ocean breezes and lovely lingering minerals from the white diatomaceous soils. A balanced, pure, quaffable wine with lots of character and drive. Such a value when you consider many of their neighbors are at least twice the price!
