Two visionaries collide in this most unique rum. Richard Seale, proprietor of Foursquare and darling of the rum world has allowed Marc Darroze of artisan Armagnac fame to select some choice spirit, always a blend of expertly fermented and distilled pot and column molasses distillate, and finish its aging in France at chez Darroze. The finishing is one of the most unique in the world and occured in barrels that had previously held late-harvest Jurançon wine. The results of these two great minds coming together are stupendous. Incredibly pure and accessible, the rum is a rollercoaster of flavor from fruity to herbal to baked goods and spice. It's clean and easy, coming in at 43%.

One of the most unique rums on our shelves-- this Foursquare selection from Bapt & Clem has been on my mind ever since my first sip a few days ago. It is an awesome contradiction of terms. The nose is all Jurançon-- tropical notes of mango juice and slightly fermented pineapple, and initially I was worried about how sweet of a dram I was in for, but these are just the aromatics, and this rum can't wait to hit you with more. The youthful spirit retains energy and attitude-- balancing the tropical nose with a rich, earthy palate that finishes with an exotically oily texture and flashes of raw pink peppercorn (spice with a touch of tart red fruit).

Rum is already sweet as far as distilled spirits go, so I was a tad hesitant about this dram because it’s getting some age in sweet wine barrels from the Jurancon region in France. All trepidation washed away with the first sniff of my glass though because this rum is nowhere near cloying. Yes, there are tropical fruit notes reminiscent of late-harvest Jurancon such as mango, papaya, and pineapple. However, these qualities find balance with a bright citrus acidity and a slightly peppery spice to keep things interesting. Vanilla bean and light caramels intertwine with the fruit elements adding a little heft and voluptuousness, all of which gets lifted elegantly by soft floral notes.

One of the most unique rums we have ever carried. Finished in sweet Jurancon wine casks, this comes across sweeter than most Foursquare, but is still wonderfully dry. There are no hard edges here, everything fits neatly into a smooth and beautiful whole. Each sip reveals a new dimension layered on top of the last. The base is complex brown sugar and corn bread. The first story herbal, bits of fresh tea, sage, alfalfa. Second story - fruit. Whole peaches, apricots, figs. The penthouse is more like a rooftop garden, verbena, blossoms, decorative grasses and cooking herbs. Through it all is a coating of dessert wine in the finest glaze. It's glorious.
