It was a huge hit and ther staple liquor was mezcal. Sourcing this spirit from Mexico and gettnig into the Guatemalan highlands proved tricky and required some unsavory trade routes - hence Ilegal Mezcal was born. John's since gone legit, but kept the name. A bit of an unusal beast in mezcal, this bottliing sees time in oak barrels providing a mellowing of the robust spirit and a light framing of oak flavors.
