2015 Eisele Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1377606 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon charges from the gate with exuberant red and black cherries notes, black currants and mulberries with a beautiful roses and lavender perfume, plus hints of sandalwood and cinnamon stick. Full-bodied, concentrated and downright explosive in the mouth, it is still wearing loads of gorgeous puppy-fat fruit flavors, offering suggestions of the complex, multilayered blockbuster that it will emerge into. The structure deserves its own mention: wonderful, seamless freshness and oh-so-fine, pixelated tannins, with an extraordinary persistence of fruit and mineral nuances. Wow. Outer quote mark Eisele Vineyard's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Majestic and soaring in the glass, the 2015 is absolutely stunning from the very first taste. A rush of dark fruit, graphite, grilled herb, smoke, leather, earthiness and exotic spices makes a bold opening statement, but it is the wine's breath, volume and sheer intensity that are all off the charts. I tasted the 2015 blind in a flight of wines from Calistoga's Pickett Road neighborhood. All of the wines were terrific, but the wine that was most moving and most profound was unquestionably the 2015 from Eisele Vineyard. (AG) Inner quote mark (12/2018)

Outer quote mark Fabulous and subtle aromas of crushed berries and tobacco with leaves. Green olives and some cedar, too. Full-bodied, dense and tight with gorgeous intensity and length. Extremely persistent on the palate. A solid and racy red with complexity and vigor. Drink in 2022. Inner quote mark (5/2018)

K&L Notes

Winery notes: "2015 marks the 45th vintage of the Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. While efforts to improve consume our attention day-to-day, in many ways our vision is a continuation of the prior decades: to protect this magnificent resource by farming organically and biodynamically with the utmost respect for the land, to challenge our understanding of the influence of the soils with passionate curiosity, and to carefully allow the complexity of the place to manifest in the bottle. While this vintage is defined by very small yields and commensurate power and concentration, the historic Eisele Vineyard terroir character of purity, energy and freshness shines through with startling clarity. The 2015 Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon captures all the nuances of the personality defining rocky soils within the parcels bordering Simmons Creek, resulting in a multidimensional wine of great balance and elegance."

Nobody makes a wine like Eisele in Napa - it is a truly intellectual, graceful, and masterful wine that speaks to a singular place and an elegant style. It couldn't have a better steward than the folks at Latour. Intoxicating aromas of bright red currant, sage, and cut flower hint at the complexity to come. The palate brings deeper red fruit and incredible polish - it is silky, focused, and seamless. A long finish carries a cascade of lively cherry. I was shocked to hear that this was brought up with 90% new oak - it is invisible in the wine. This was one of those wines that left me hopeful that I'll have a chance to see how it ages - to either experience this pedigree again or to see how a wine built like this will evolve. I'm guessing it'll be brilliant in five years from now and age effortlessly for two decades afterwards.
