2016 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru "Genevrières"

SKU #1376770 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark Residual SO2 is sufficient to dominate the nose today. Marvelously energetic and intensely mineral-driven flavors also possess excellent cut that characterizes the bitter lemon and saline-inflected finish that delivers seriously fine length. This chiseled effort is almost Chablis-like and will require at least a few years of bottle age first. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding* Inner quote mark (6/2018)

Outer quote mark The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières is excellent, unfurling in the glass with notes of citrus oil, crisp Anjou pear, beeswax, wet stones and dried white flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and incisive, with an elegantly satiny attack, a tangy line of acidity and a tight-knit, concentrated core, concluding with a beautifully delineated finish. This is a racy, acid-driven Genevrières that will evolve beautifully in the cellar. Bouchard's holdings in Genevrières amount to some 15% of the appellation, so it's reassuring to see that they are in good hands. (WK) Inner quote mark (1/2019)

Outer quote mark Lean and tight, with oak spice wrapped around a core of lemon, apple and stone flavors. Firms up in the end, yet shows intensity and promise of things to come. (BS) Inner quote mark (9/2018)

Outer quote mark Pale yellow. Aromas of yellow peach, apple and spicy, vanillin oak. Creamier in the middle palate than a barrel sample I tried last year shortly after the malo, but with its stone fruit sweetness nicely leavened by citrus and mineral notes. A very rich, tactile, smooth 2016 with the balance to offer early appeal and the stuffing for mid-term aging. The firm finish displays excellent savory length. (ST) Inner quote mark (9/2018)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Ripe toffee-apple notes on the nose and rich, fleshy texture on the palate. Loads of core fruit driving the persistence. Full of potential for future complexity, and counters its fullness with excellent acidic bite on the finish. 17.5/20 points (RH) Inner quote mark (1/2018)

K&L Notes

91 points Jasper Morris, MW: "Domaine. From two upper plots, made separately because they ripen separately, then blended. Pale primrose colour, tight backward nose, some oak, some white fruit. This is very backward, but certainly indicates intensity. Surprisingly rich on the palate, more flesh than detail, and a hair too much oak for me. Good length though." (01/2018)
