2014 Big Sky Te Muna Road Pinot Noir Martinborough

SKU #1376623 93 points Bob Campbell

Deepish red/purple, good bright young colour. There are spicy oak and and ripe fruit aromas, quite charming, inviting and promising to give more in time. The wine is concentrated, lively and intense in the mouth, energised by plenty of acidity and the tannins are very evident but also ripe and without bitterness or sappiness. Power and length aplenty. An impressive wine which promises much, although it is quite oaky at this juncture. (HH) (3/2017)

Earthier, darker and riper than the 2015, Big Sky's 2014 Te Muna Road Pinot Noir delivers black cherry and red currant aromas and flavors, plus a bit of humus-rich earthiness. It's medium to full-bodied, with a supple, creamy mouthfeel and some silky tannins and cola-like spice on the finish. (JC) (2/2018)

This is somewhat big and beefy but with an overlay of oak laced creamy and sweet cherry fruit. A touch of savory umami and soy along with faint whiffs of smoke add interest and complexity to the finish. Interesting and well priced.
