2015 Haut-Bergey Rouge, Pessac-Léognan

SKU #1373982 92 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark Attractive violets, cassis and wild herbs on the nose, which leads into a sturdy palate, which has a firm wedge of tannins amid flavors of currants and cassis. Inner quote mark (2/2018)

91 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark This has a sappy core of kirsch and plum preserve flavors, laced with bright, fresh bay leaf and savory notes. A well-buried iron spine holds the finish, letting the fruit play out. Fleshes out nicely in the glass. Very solid. (JM) Inner quote mark (3/2018)

90 points Decanter

Outer quote mark This shows Pessac typicity - not as ripe as Pomerol, or even Margaux, in 2015, but it has lovely welcoming dark fruits. It's even-handed and very good quality, and should be ready to start drinking over the next few years. There's an initial touch of brett on the nose, but it clears to reveal an elegant balance. (JA) Inner quote mark (12/2007)

If you are as big a fan of the minerally, terroir-driven Pessac Léognan wines as I am, then this is a wonderful value from a Chateau whose wines have a strong following amongst our staff and customers. It is true to the 2015 vintage with ripe dark cherry, red currant, and licorice flavors. But it still maintains old world restraint with 13.5% abv, great earthy minerality and a flat out delicious, long lasting finish. What a great combination of quality and low price!
