This has always been a superb red with beautiful aromas of crushed berries, flowers and hints of hazelnuts. It’s still tight and powerful with a full body and firm and lightly chewy tannins. Beautiful now to drink but one for the cellars.

Stylistically speaking, the 2004 Galatrona is impeccable. This stunning Merlot ushers forth a soft and velvety side that accompanies the wine over the senses, from nose to mouth. The oak element is beautifully integrated with sweet tannins and firm structure. The wine is built on solid foundations that give way to multiple layers of fruit and spice that build in soaring intensity and importance. If you have a bottle of this wine in your cellar, you may consider pulling it out soon. This wine is drinking beautifully at the moment and should continue to do so within the next decade. (ML)

Galatrona is one of Italy's top Merlots and 2004 is its best vintage yet. The mouthfeel is extraordinary, distinguished by spectacular smoothness and elegance: The wine drinks like a chiaroscuro painting where all elements are harmonious by design. And there's excellent dimension with vibrant tones of red fruit and sweet spice woven within its fruity fabric. *Cellar Selection*

Fabulous aromas of crushed berries, milk chocolate and flowers. Very complex and multilayered. Full-bodied, with gorgeous flavors and an ultrafine finish. Goes on and on. The high quality and subtlety of the tannins is impressive. Greatest ever from this producer. Le Pin of Tuscany. Merlot. (JS)

Bright ruby. Highly aromatic and very ripe nose offers blackberry, blueberry, cherry cola, tobacco and Christmas spices, but is lifted by a bright violet nuance. Lush, dense and very pure, with brightly focused smoky red berry, cherry-cola and zingy mineral flavors complicated by a hint of menthol. At once rich and energetic, this powerful wine finishes with outstanding clarity, noble tannic grip and noteworthy length and balance. One of the best Galatronas ever. (ST-Vinous)

The estate's 2004 Galatrona (100% Merlot) is a stunner. Dark ruby in hue, it is wonderfully alive, bursting from the glass with an irresistible array of tobacco, smoke, dark cherries, tobacco, menthol, spice and roasted coffee bean nuances that are delicately interwoven in its silky-textured frame. This gorgeous effort is hard to resist today, yet its superb length and finessed tannins indicate it is built to age gracefully. While not inexpensive, Petrolo's Galatrona offers terrific relative value in today's marketplace. It is not to be missed. (AG)
