2017 Tablas Creek "Patelin de Tablas Blanc" Paso Robles White Rhône Blend

 Pale gold. Mineral-accented orange, pear and white flowers on the perfumed nose, along with a gingery nuance that adds spicy lift. Taut citrus and orchard fruit flavors unfurl slowly and show hints of bitter quinine and anise that build slowly with air.  The 2017 Patelin de Tablas Blanc wafts from the glass with notes of rose water, preserved citrus and Provence herbs. On the palate, it's medium-bodied and flavorful, with succulent acids, a satiny texture and a pure finish. The 2017 is a blend of 44% Grenache Blanc, 29% Viognier, 12% Roussanne, 12% Marsanne and 3% Clairette Blanche. A blend of 44% Grenache Blanc, 29% Viognier, 12% Roussanne, 12% Marsanne, and the rest Clairette, it’s a balanced, lightly textured, charming effort that has forward notes of melon and citrus fruits, bright acidity, and a clean, elegant texture. The wine incorporates fruit from nine top Rhône vineyards in Paso Robles, each vineyard selected for its quality. Like many white wines from the Southern Rhône, it is based on the crisp acids and rich mouthfeel of Grenache Blanc, with Viognier added for floral, tropical aromatics, and small additions of Roussanne and Marsanne for structure. *Biodynamic*

Such an incredibly well balanced white blend for the price; when talking about big names, quality fruit, and revered winemaking, not much can come close. Led by Grenache Blanc, this wine contrasts a supple mouthfeel with a perfect drop of acidity. Floral and fruity, this is your new weeknight sipper, either as a cocktail or with a plate of hummus and pita.

I believe that white Rhone-style wines should and could dominate the white wine market; especially when they’re as good as these wines. The mélange of white grapes conspire to create such juicy, complex, and distinctive wines, it’s really hard not to love them. The incredible complexity of the wine comes from the unique and distinct parts that make up much more than the sum of the distinct parts. The result is a floral bouquet with wafts of light citrus and melon. This wine is hard not to fall in love with. I would recommend serving it with an avocado salad, a simple roast chicken, or a traditional bouillabaisse.
