J.H. Cutter Whiskey (750ml) (Previously $50)

SKU #1366345 Whisky Advocate

Outer quote mark Expressively aromatic, with orange, chai spices, incense, spearmint, and Juicy Fruit gum, buttressed by earthy moss and cedar. Equally vivid flavors of dry oak, pepper, cinnamon Red Hots, dried orange peel, orange pekoe tea, and chili-chocolate, but it loses steam on the finish. Water tames some of the brasher qualities without dampening the liveliness. (SSB, Spring 2019) Inner quote mark

K&L Notes

The newest release from that special distillery up on Old Potrero hill. This is blended American whiskey, but it stands out from the category due to the incredible ingredients involved. It starts with good straight Kentucky bourbon whisky aged nearly 5 years. Nearly 3/4 of the blend is the gorgeous Kentucky bourbon. This is married with the heady Old Potrero 18th Century Style Rye Whiskey and a special Old Potrero Port Finish Rye Whiskey, aged for around 4 years. The resulting concoction is fantastic. The bold, sweet vanilla of the bourbon paired with the wild, earthy spice of OP's 18th Century Rye and a subtle kiss of sweet, red port fruit are a match made in heaven. A truly unique example of some seriously crafty whisky and a welcome foray into the complex world of blending from our close friends at Hotalings & Co.

This is a delicious and exciting addition to the bourbon section. The nose is sweet and spicy . In the mouth it is round and fairly rich with the rye adding spicy undertones. It is easy to drink, soft and has a long finish.

This blend is definitely greater than the sum of its parts! Four fifths of this blend is from the heart of Kentucky bourbon country, and grounds this whiskey with the richness and smooth manners of a southern gentleman. The other fifth is wild rye from the left coast, giving this spice, wildness and energy. It all works out in perfect harmony, making it my favorite new American whiskey that I have tried since the "craft" whiskey movement started!
