2016 Charles Baur Muscat Alsace

SKU #1365185 92 points Vinous

Pale straw. Notes of spicy flowers, white peach, grapefruit and lime on the nose and body are extremely pure and have a penetrating quality that is absolutely delightful. Fruit-forward and delicious, boasting lovely sugar/acid balance and noteworthy precision and length, this beauty has a huge “gulpability factor” - one sip and you can’t help but gulp down glass after glass. Made from grapes grown in the stellar Eichberg grand cru, one of Alsace’s best. The back label reads dry, but there is a hint of welcome residual sweetness here that adds body. Knockout stuff. The spicy freshness of honeysuckle hovers on the nose. Light and dry, the palate conveys fresh and bright lemon notes. An inherent purity lifts the entire affair. The finish is dry and light, but lasting. (AK) (4/2019)

I love a Muscat as a change of pace from the other aromatic whites. A Muscat offers a slightly different taste profile as it tends to lean towards orange and tangerine flavors rather than peach, mango and apricot flavors that Gewurztraminers do. The 2016 Charles Baur Muscat Alsace is killer deal with sexy aromas of orange flowers and spice while the palate bursts with tangerine and mandarin flavors.
Top Value! Drink from 2018 to 2021

Country:

France

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
Sub-Region:

Alsace

- A region and appellation in France that has been a part of both France and Germany throughout history. Geologically isolated from both countries, Alsace has also maintained much of its own culture and wine tradition, while also being influenced by the traditions of both countries. Alsatian wine is easily recognized by it traditional tall bottles. Alsatian wine makers produce a unique style of varietal wine, 90 percent of which is white.
