2013 Hess Collection "Estate" Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1363442 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Another sensational effort and probably one of the best wines to emerge from Hess in the last 30 years is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Mt. Veeder, a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Malbec. This is sensational wine with fabulous aromatics of white flowers, licorice, roasted coffee, blueberry and black raspberry liqueur, with pen ink and graphite making an appearance. It is a full-bodied, rich and a compelling effort from Hess. (RP) Inner quote mark (12/2016)

92 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark A hearty 18% Malbec is part of this wine, from the producer's appellation estate. Clove, cedar and graphite kick things off on the nose, before youthful tannin give breadth and depth to the ripe blackberry, cherry and blueberry. The wine is soft and seductive on the finish. The story behind this wine is quite fun...I recently asked our supplier for more 2016 Hess Collection Mount Veeder Cab only to be disappointed that it was sold out. However my frown was quickly turned upside-down when the winery said we could take the remainder of some 2013 they had stashed away in their library! Knowing the stellar reputation of the vintage and reading Robert Parker's glowing review of the wine I jumped at the opportunity. And boy are we glad we did! The wine is singing right now, bold aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, plum, blueberry coulis, tobacco leaf, pencil shaving charred oak and volcanic mineral undertones. The powerful mountain structure has melted into soft, lush, mouthcoating texture. The flavors are still bold and primary with only subtle hints of bottle development creeping in suggesting this wine is still evolving nicely and is yet to reach its best. If you like your Cab big and bold drink away! if you enjoy more secondary flavors this wine has tons of potential to laydown for at least another 10 years. What a beauty!
Drink from 2021 to 2031
