2017 Pra "Morandina" Valpolicella Superiore

SKU #1363014 90 points James Suckling

I like the fresh herbs on the nose here, which complement the aromas of fresh red cherries, plums and fruit tea. Light to medium body, fine tannins and a fruity finish. Drink now. (11/2018)

This was an immediate staff favorite at a recent tasting here at the store and it made a number of us rethink Valpolicella. The best Valpolicella fruit goes to making Amarone and because so much of the remaining fruit is used to make Ripasso, its been a challenge to source great Valpolicella of late. Thankfully Pra is back in our market. This enchanting wine is an intoxicating combination of spiced red fruit aromas and a juicy palate of the same with a deceptively long finish. It's medium-bodied and shows best with a slight chill. This makes it and ideal Summer red for sure.

Not your average Valpolicella. The Pra starts off with a spicy, smokey nose influenced by notes of crushed red cherries. It is lighter and fresher than most wines in the area, almost relating to a Beaujolais. The crunchy red fruit on the palate balances the black pepper spice while the freshness makes this a perfect red for summer.
