2015 La Conseillante, Pomerol (1.5L) (Previously $420)

SKU #1362435 98 points Decanter

Outer quote mark This was the first vintage with Marielle Cazeaux as technical director. As with the 2005, this is a wine where you feel everything stepping up a level, and as with the 2009 the fruit profile is dense and seductive, with flatteringly succulent tannins. It's rich and ripe, with striking fresh mint and chargrilled oak on the tight finish that adds a layer of complexity to the fleshy raspberry fruit. This continues the more muscular feel to La Conseillante that we have seen over the past few vintages, but it absolutely delivers the classical balance that so many of us love this estate for. 3.65pH, 75% new oak. Bottled in late May 2017. (JA) Inner quote mark (11/2017)

Outer quote mark Aromas of tar, black olive skin and blackberries follow through to a full body. Ultra-fine tannins and a long, linear finish with super intensity. Well-crafted in every sense. A fabulous Pomerol for the future. Try in 2022. Inner quote mark (2/2018)

Outer quote mark Newly-arrived Technical Director Marielle Cazaux turned out a jewel of a wine at La Conseillante in 2015, her debut vintage. A polished and super-sophisticated Pomerol, La Conseillante is all class. Precise, lifted aromatics make a strong first impression, but it is the wine's overall feel and sense of harmony that truly dazzle. Over the last two years, the 2015 seems to have gained in freshness, precision and nuance. What a wine! The blend is 81% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc. Don't' miss it. (AG) Inner quote mark (2/2018)

Outer quote mark Reminding me of the 2009, the 2015 La Conseillante is more overt and sexy compared to the 2016, offering a huge nose of mulled black fruits, spring flowers, chocolate and gravely/clay-like earthiness. This is a full-bodied, complex, elegant and layered 2015 that has a singular character and the class to drink well for 20-25 years. Inner quote mark (11/2017)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Composed of 81% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc and aged for 18 months in 70% new and 30% one-year-old French oak, the medium garnet-purple colored 2015 La Conseillante opens with reticent, earthy notes of dusty soil, garrigue, forest floor and iron ore with a core of warm plums, cassis, cigar boxes, star anise and dark chocolate plus a hint of violets. Medium to full-bodied with decadent fruit and a gorgeous plushness to the texture, the palate features impeccable poise and compelling depth, finishing on a lingering mineral note. 95 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark This is a perfumed wine, rich in tannins and with a good balance between the Merlot and Cabernet Franc in the blend. Ripe black fruits and velvet tannins give the wine elegance and charm. It is juicy and ripe, with a background of firm structure set against a crisp final texture. The wine will develop well; drink from 2025. (RV) Inner quote mark (4/2018)

95 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark This is reserved, with subtle Earl Grey tea, singed apple wood and warm fruitcake aromas opening slowly ahead of a core of dark boysenberry, raspberry and blackberry compote flavors. A lovely swath of velvety tannins carries the finish, with the fruit and spice aromas pulling together nicely. Some patience is needed here, but this is one of the elite of the AOC in this vintage. Best from 2023 through 2040. (JM) Inner quote mark (3/2018)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Mid crimson with ruby rim. Seductive aroma of dark-red fruits, a hint of violets, and the scent carries through onto the palate, where the tannins are super-smooth but compact. A long, complete wine. 17.5/20 points. (JH) Inner quote mark (10/2017)

K&L Notes

96 points Neal Martin: "The 2015 La Conseillante has a refined but quite intense bouquet that is very well defined, scents of cranberry and wild strawberry, cold wet stone, hints of black truffle that emerge with aeration. The purity here is only bettered by the 2010. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, a superb thread of acidity, beautifully balanced with a silky smooth texture that disguises the backbone of this Pomerol. There is exquisite detail here, the mineralité and tension flourishing on the sustained finish, to complete a fabulous La Conseillante that will give many years of pleasure. Tasted at La Conseillante vertical at the property." (Vinous, 5/2018)
