2016 Domaine des Bosquets "Le Plateau" Gigondas (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1359902 95 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Aged in very old demi-muids, this has earthy black cherry aromas. It's aromatically complex, with blueberry, menthol and violet notes too. Fresher and a little less full-bodied than their other single-vineyard cuvées, this has more measured acidity, alcohol and oak for better balance. Lovely ripe tannins coat the mouth, and the finish is long. Drinking Window 2020 - 2030. (MW) Inner quote mark (10/2018)

Outer quote mark Virtually all Mourvèdre (there are a few Grenache and Syrah vines mixed in), the 2016 Gigondas Le Plateau was fermented as whole bunches and developed an exotic nose, ranging from hints of flowers and herbs to fraises des bois, cherries, plums and pineapple. It's full-bodied and rich, with a supple mid-palate and firm tannins on the finish. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. (JC) Inner quote mark (8/2018)

95 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Bright and juicy, with lovely plum, anise, boysenberry and black cherry compote flavors. Racy acidity and a fine chalky spine give this an elegant profile overall, with a silky texture and refinement in the end. (JM) Inner quote mark (8/2018)

94 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Bright violet. Expressive blackberry, cassis, incense and spicecake scents show impressive clarity and pick up a smoky mineral nuance with air. Sweet and seamless in the mouth, offering deeply concentrated red and dark fruit preserve, star anise and violet pastille flavors that are given focus and spine by a core of juicy acidity. Deftly blends richness and finesse and finishes extremely long and sappy; pliant tannins add shape and grip. (JR) Inner quote mark (8/2018)

94 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Hints of sweet licorice and spice mark this intensely ripe but stately wine made from predominantly Mourvèdre. Compared with the producer’s other Gigondas bottlings, La Plateau has a depth of minerality and distinct freshness of acidity. A potent yet graceful wine edged by fine, persistent tannins. Enjoy now–2030. (AI) Inner quote mark (12/2018)

Outer quote mark The 2016 Gigondas Le Plateau is all Mourvèdre that spent 18 months in older demi-muids. It has a huge nose of blackberries, black raspberries, peppery herbs, and spiced meats. Rich, full-bodied, concentrated, and tannic on the palate, it's going to need at least 4-5 years to shed its tannin but is going to be long-lived. Inner quote mark (9/2018)
