Impressive depth of fruit and structure to this 2017 with currant, plum and light chocolate character, medium to full body and round, lightly chewy tannins. Flavorful and long. Dialed-in quality here.

Juicy and youthfully compact, with bramble-edged cassis, plum and blackberry flavors, lined with licorice snap and tar details. The grippy back end shows good energy, with latent acidity adding length. A buried bolt of iron adds range. Rock-solid. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. (JM)

Dry tannins and bright fruit promise it will be an attractive, balanced wine as it ages relatively quickly. The dry core should soften to make room for the black currant flavors. (RV)

The 2017 Talbot is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with aromas of cedar, black cherries, mulberries and warm blackcurrants with touches of earth, tree bark and herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, firm, grainy and muscular with an earthy finish. (LPB)

The 2017 Talbot is powerful and rustic, just as it was en primeur. Black cherry, plum, grilled herbs, leather, menthol and scorched earth add to the wine's brooding, potent feel. The 2017 remains a rather rustic Saint-Julien. It will be interesting to see if the tannins soften over time. For now, there is a good bit of character, if not exactly a ton of finesse. (AG)

The 2017 Château Talbot is solid and offers a charming, medium-bodied, nicely concentrated profile. It has classic black and blue fruits, hints of damp earth and tobacco, ripe tannin, and nicely integrated acidity. This is a classic, well-made Saint-Julien.
