2017 Feytit-Clinet, Pomerol (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1357364 93-96 points Jeb Dunnuck

The charming (and talented) Jeremy Chasseuil has turned out a brilliant 2017 Feytit-Clinet from his tiny estate located between Trotanoy and Latour a Pomerol. Based on 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc aging in 65% new French oak, it offers a gorgeous nose of ripe black and blue fruits, violets, and damp earth, with impeccably integrated sweet oak. Full-bodied, rounded, and concentrated, it plays in the fresh, elegant style of the vintage, yet packs more oomph and texture than most. This is brought in exclusively by American merchant Jeffrey Davies and is well worth your time and money. (4/2018)

93-96 points Vinous

A wine of real distinction and class, the 2017 Feytit-Clinet possesses tremendous intensity and exceptional balance. Inky black cherry, lavender, charred earth and licorice, along with potent tannins, give Feytit-Clinet its explosive rich personality. As always, Feytit-Clinet is an especially virile, tannic Pomerol. All the elements are wonderfully fused together. The 2017 was tremendous on each of the three occasions I tasted it. In a word: Superb. (AG) (5/2018)

Some good fruit with hints of chocolate and berry character. Medium body, firm tannins and an open finish. Should develop nicely. (4/2018)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2017 Feytit-Clinet is a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, matured in 65% new French oak for 16 months. It has an opulent bouquet that is exceedingly pure with blueberry and blackberry. The oak is nicely integrated, becoming increasingly floral in time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, dark chocolate infused black fruit with a generous finish that is actually quite showy for this excellent Pomerol cru. Very fine, although in my opinion proprietor Jeremy Chasseuil has made better vintages in recent years. (NM) (2/2020)

K&L Notes

90-92 points Neal Martin in Vinous: "The 2017 Feytit-Clinet has quite a complex bouquet with red berry fruit, a touch of seaweed and smoke. It is not as powerful as the previous two vintages although it displays impressive focus. The palate is very refined on the entry, silky smooth in texture (as usual) with a fine bead of acidity. It just needs to manifest more precision towards the finish but that will hopefully develop during its barrel maturation. I have been a big supporter of Jeremy Chasseuil’s often over-looked Pomerol and though, this is not from his top-drawer, it still shows potential. I am prudent with my assessment for now." (5/2018)
