2017 du Tertre, Margaux (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1357359 95 points Wine Enthusiast

Made by the same team as Giscours, this wine reflects the same attention to detail. Ripe tannins give the wine its firm side while the structure is powerful and dense. *Cellar Selection* (RV) (1/2020)

90-92 points Vinous

The 2017 du Tertre is a distinctly powerful, savory Margaux. A rich concoction of jammy dark fruit, smoke, leather, licorice, tobacco and game melds together in this pliant, inviting Grand Vin from du Tertre. All the elements are beautifully woven together in a silky, succulent du Tertre that will drink well with minimal cellaring. As always, du Tertre has a very distinctive wild character, but the 2017 appears to have more than enough depth to provide balance. Overall, this is a strong vintage for du Tertre, with lovely fruit presence and terrific balance. (AG) (5/2018)

91 points Decanter

This is a little softer in expression than the intense delivery of the past two vintages, but still has extremely well-expressed red and black fruits, layered together with grilled coffee and almond notes. It has silky tannins and an injection of juice through the mid-palate. Classic Margaux character. (JA) (4/2018)

91 points James Suckling

A very aromatic red with spice, mushrooms and berries as well as plums. Medium body. Juicy finish. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. (1/2020)

89-91 points Jeb Dunnuck

The 2017 Château du Tertre is a beauty. Possessing plenty of red, black, and blue fruits, spicy oak, medium body and ripe tannin, it’s going to need short-term cellaring to let the oak integrate but has loads to love. While Margaux didn’t hit the highs of Pauillac in the vintage, there are plenty charming wines from this appellation. (4/2018)

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Medium garnet-purple colored and composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2017 du Tertre gives expressive notes of black berries and cassis with pencil lead, bay leaves and lavender hints. The palate is medium-bodied with a good core of open-knit fruit and plush tannins lifted with great freshness, finishing on a perfumed note. (LPB) (4/2018)

K&L Notes

Neal Martin in Vinous: "The 2017 du Tertre was bottled at the of end May 2019, estate director Alexandre van Beek mentioning that they are aiming for earlier bottlings. It has a perfumed bouquet with pressed rose petals and brown spices infusing the red berry fruit, perhaps a little more savory than its Margaux peers. The palate is medium-bodied with a splash of balsamic on the entry. Moderate depth, slightly coarse tannins with that balsamic note evident towards the finish. What is missing is some depth and flesh, though it may develop with time." (02/2020)
