2017 Gloria, St-Julien (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1355650 94 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2017 Gloria is just as delicious from bottle as it was from barrel. A rush of bright red cherry and plum fruit, blood orange, iron, dried flowers and mint gives the 2017 its sense of energy. Medium in body and full of character, Gloria is one of the highlights of the vintage. Don't miss it. (AG) Inner quote mark (3/2020)

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark While this wine has plenty of wood flavors, the fruit weight justifies it. It is rich with good spice and balanced acidity. It will develop relatively quickly, drink from 2023. (RV) Inner quote mark (4/2018)

92 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Tight but plentiful fruit extraction. The expression is a little less full than in 2016, but there is both finesse and grip to the fine, firmly held tannins as they travel through the palate, accompanying cassis, fern, rosemary, heather and cigar box notes. Enjoyable stuff. (JA) Inner quote mark (4/2018)

92 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark Falling under the Bernard Magrez umbrella, the 2017 Chateau Fombrauge is a soft, plush, sexy wine that shines in the vintage. With medium to full-bodied richness and depth as well as ripe, supple tannins, it has lots of cassis and blackberry fruits, a touch of tobacco and earth, nicely integrated oak, and outstanding length on the finish. This 2017 is already hard to resist, yet I suspect it's going to evolve beautifully for 10-15 years. Tasted twice. Inner quote mark (2/2020)

92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Dark and winey in profile, with steeped plum, blackberry and black currant fruit that is youthfully coiled up, laced with bramble, apple wood and anise notes. Offers a compact finish but the energy is there. Let this unwind in the cellar. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. (JM) Inner quote mark (3/2020)

90-91 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark A tight and focused red with currants, dark berries and hints of mushrooms. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a juicy finish. Inner quote mark (4/2018)

89-91 points Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2017 Gloria is deep garnet-purple in color and scented of warm plums and blueberry pie with hints of potpourri, tilled soil and espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with just enough expressive fruit and a fine, approachable frame. The blend is currently 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot. (LPB) Inner quote mark (4/2018)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Mid crimson. Lifted cassis and cassis leaf. A little austere but very fresh and with fine-line purity. Dry, dark-chocolate finish that leaves your mouth feeling clean. 16.5/20 points. (JH) Inner quote mark (4/2018)

K&L Notes

91 points Neal Martin for Vinous: "The 2017 Gloria was cropped at 48hl/ha and the Grand Vin comprises 65% of the total production. It has a generous bouquet with red berry fruit, warm bricks and light tobacco aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, a pretty and understated Gloria. A classic tobacco and bay leaf finish does not quite kick on like other recent vintages. Nevertheless, this is a delicious Saint-Julien that will give 20 years of drinking pleasure." (02/2020)
