2017 Tour St-Christophe, St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1355635 95 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark From a picturesque vineyard on the east side of Saint-Emilion, not far from Chateau Barde-Haut the 2017 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe checks in as a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that was brought up in a mix of new and used barrels. This inky purple-hued beauty boasts stunning notes of blue fruits, crushed rocks, violets, and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and with remarkable purity as well as finesse in its tannins, this is another remarkable wine from this estate, which has been turning out brilliant wines in every vintage now. Don't miss it. Tasted twice. Inner quote mark (2/2020)

Outer quote mark Dense and layered red with dark berry, volcanic ash and white pepper. Full-bodied, layered and chewy. Muscular. Inner quote mark (4/2018)

93 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2017 Tour Saint Christophe is a dense, richly constituted wine loaded with tremendous energy and pure power. It is also a bit shut down; so I would prefer to give it a few years in bottle to be at its best. Black fruit, chocolate, leather, licorice and spice build into the potent, virile finish. This is a wine with tremendous promise. (AG) 93+ Inner quote mark (3/2020)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Tour Saint-Christophe (blended of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc) charges out of the glass with bold notions of dried mulberries, fruitcake and baked plums plus hints of tobacco, iron ore and tilled soil. Full-bodied, the palate is undeniably rich and opulent, yet the freshness injects vibrance and a sense of decorum, supported by plush tannins, finishing on a compelling mineral note. The alcohol here is knocking on 15%, but you wouldn't know it. (Psst, considering this is well over the 14% USA tariff threshold, this should find lots of takers in the States!) K&L Notes

92 points Neal Martin for Vinous: "The 2017 Tour Saint Christophe has a well defined bouquet with black truffle tinged black fruit with hints of cassis surfacing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very lithe in the mouth, not the most complex Tour Saint Christophe that I have tasted in recent years, but I appreciate the saline finish. Very fine." (02/2020)

Another Kwok wine and our biggest selling 2015 and 2016 in terms of bottles. This 2017 had 40% less wine than normal as the berries were quite small. Very perfumey aromas with undertones of sweet oak. Will need a few years in the cellar-another great value from this top property.

The secret is already out at Tour St Christophe - what they deliver for the price is simply stunning. Such is the case in 2017. Loaded with blackberry, graphite, and dark plum, it is seamless and impressively integrated for such a young sample. With juicy acid and a slightly oaky finish, it shows a class and pedigree that will leave many in St Emilion envious. This will be nearly impossible to resist on release but will reward for years to come and be fascinating to compare with the terrific 2014, 2015, and 2016. Drink 2021 to 2032.
