2016 Eric Kent "Luke's Grove" Russian River Valley Chardonnay (Previously $42)

SKU #1355098

Like art in a bottle. Kent Humphrey created the Eric Kent winery as a celebration of art and craft. He sources fruit from some of Sonoma County's best vineyards and he partners with local Sonoma artists to feature their work in a sort of wine label gallery. Each wine Kent creates features a new and distinct piece of art. For Kent’s part, after pursuing a career in academia and advertising, he found a home in the wine cellar, and began working with vineyards he loves throughout Sonoma County. The Luke's Grove Chardonnay is primarily sourced from the Stiling Vineyard with the balance coming from the Fallenleaf Vineyard (planted primarily to Old Wente clone for the bass notes) and the Green Acres Vineyard (planted to the Hyde clone for the texture, verve, and racy acidity). Kent said it best when he described the wine as "lush, immediately approachable and undeniably delicious" and "Luke’s Grove is...our Chardonnay ambassador for EK newbies." This is quintessential Russian River Valley Chardonnay.

I've been a fan of these wines for the better part of a decade now. I had the great pleasure to meet Kent many years ago when he was just getting started. Truth be told, I was tipped off to these wines by a client/friend of mine. As he put it, "you better get on board with Kent fast." Though it's hard to say which of his many wines is my favorite, his Stiling Vineyard Chardonnay is kind of a standout. This is a pure RRV beauty. It's the paragon of what these wines should taste like. It possesses all that fleshy green apple and pear fruit you'd expect with just a dash of zesty citrus which gives the wine lift and freshness on the palate. Of course, all of that is topped off nicely with a dollup of wood spice. Thanks to our long running partnership with Kent, he was generous enough to offer us a parcel at a particularly sweet tariff. So we can offer it to you for nearly half the winery price. With a few years of bottle age under its belt this is drinking perfectly today and will be your go-to autumn Chardonnay.
