SKU #1354236 93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark From the excellent 2008 vintage, this is a very complete, ripe wine. It is rich, packed with crisp white fruits that are developing into a structured, concentrated wine with a great future. The balance between acidity and dosage is just right. *Editors' Choice* (RV) Inner quote mark (12/2016)

The forefront aromas of under-ripe pineapple, fresh coconut water, proofing dough, and golden delicious apples present first but then there is a Manzanilla sherry aroma quality to this. Its bright acidity is a notch higher on the mouthfeel and represents mostly in the citrus variety, that kind of caught me by surprise in a good way. Overall this '08 Feuillatte is a great purchase for $50.00 and one that can be kept for years as this can only become more complex over time.

Nicolas Feuillatte has become France’s number one growing Champagne house since opening in 1976. I visited and tasted at the very impressive new facility in Chouilly, and while the excellent value NV Brut is impressive in its own right, this 2008 Brut Vintage is a real treat! On the nose, fresh apricot, lemons, white flowers and apple fruit. Lovely texture from the extended aging, though still very fresh. Like many of the 2008 vintage, it's holding up very well and will continue to age well for years to come. The 2008 vintage Champagnes are becoming difficult to find on the open market, and this one represents a great opportunity to grab up a great one at a great price!

The nose of the 2008 vintage Feuillatte shows the intensity and depth of this superb vintage, it emanates power and shows of a complex baked apple scent. On the palate you can immediately sense this is a bigger wine, more depth and texture while is still has superb lift and balance. The flavors are a mélange of baked apple skins and brioche nicely integrated into the wine. The finish is focused and has excellent balance while showing potential for aging for 3-5 more years.

Alex and I tasted this at the source when it was first released this spring, and now it has arrived in the USA. While Feuillatte makes a lot of Champagne, they do not make a lot of vintage, and they are able to select out the best plots from their best growers. In a great vintage like 2008, they have a real success. Not only does this have the brioche notes of a wine that has been aged a long time on the lees, it also has a very nice tight bead, good texture and some cherry fruit from top class Pinot Noir. The best part of the wine is the very dry, classically mineral driven 2008 finish. This is serious vintage Champagne!

Like many others out there, we have long extolled the virtues of grower Champagnes. The quality of the vineyard work, transparency of great terroir, and individual stories behind these small, multi-generational houses not only make for easy to tell stories, they often times produce superior wine. That said, I have to hand it to Nicolas Feuillatte, a very large CM (cooperative manipulant) house which produced this delicious 2008 vintage Champagne. All the hallmarks of the 2008 vintage are on full display: intensity of flavor, dry extract, and lively acidity. Coupled with a judicious dosage and appealing underlying yeasty qualities, it makes for a solid value bottle of Champagne. Great vintage bubbles under $45? I'm in!

The all time great vintage of 2008 delivers again. I'm always thrilled to get to taste another '08. The Nicolas Feuillatte is rich and complex, loaded with fresh baked bread and a generosity that many Champagnes don't possess upon release. The lightning streak of acidity that is a hallmark of the vintage is there, but more than others is sits in the background letting the beautiful fruit and brioche shine. This is the best release from Feuillatte I've had the pleasure of tasting.
