Four Roses K&L Exclusive OESK (9 Years Old, 7 Months) Single Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)

SKU #1349285

This great little OESK is the most familiar of this round of casks. This recipe is almost always one of my favorites and shows up in the standard Small Batch in a big way. The nose on this one reminded me alot of this years Limited Edition Small Batch with tons of orange liqueur, stone fruits, sweet corn, menthol and oak spice. After the high proof of the other two this one starts easy and hints that it will be sweet and easy, thanks to the opulent nose and the easy entry. But the finish goes in a different direction completely, building a big warming spice on the back palate and finishing with a deep fudgey note at the end. It might not be the most exciting on paper, but it's a real star in the glass.

The first of three bottles of the new single barrel batch and the lowest ABV, coming in at 55.5%. More floral than fruity on the nose, but the slightly spicy complexity from the yeast strain definitely kicks in and adds a nice touch. The palate is a bit more fruity. A splash of water really brings out the touch of rusticity as well as more banana, peach, and vanilla flavors.

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
