The 2015 Château Pierre 1er is a juicy, forward, delicious effort that offers lots of red and black currants, leafy herbs, cedar wood and sous bois. This medium-bodied, charming, moderately concentrated 2015 has plenty of fruit, a rounded texture, moderate acidity and ripe tannin, all suggesting it will keep for a decade or more. (11/2017)

This solid red offers a core of plum and boysenberry compote flavors, with well-integrated toast and a good bolt of licorice on the finish. (web only, 2016) (JM)

Here is a fabulous value that I don't hesitate to recommend to lovers of Napa Valley Cabernet due to the volume and intensity of the fruit. The substantial middle is smothered with dark berry cobbler and plum jam flavors along with herb and cedar closet scents. This deep and forward bottle is delicious now and should appeal to any lover of big, rich reds.

This big St. Emilion impressed us all today at our Bordeaux staff tasting. It is a giant of a claret, with extroverted raspberry fruit, a rich mid-palate, great full bodied texture and the acidity to keep it all in balance. If you like your Bordeaux big, this will be perfect, especially with some skirt steak on the grill!

Additional Information:

- A very popular red grape variety found in the great wines of St. Emilion and Pomerol. It is the most planted variety in Bordeaux, and it has also become an extremely fashionable red in many regions including California. Although it has a reputation to be smooth, and easy to drink when young, Merlot is also capable of producing extremely intense wines as well. It is often used as a blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon.

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
