2017 Marietta "Old Vine Rosé" California Rosé

SKU #1345857 90 points Jeb Dunnuck

Made from a direct press of equal parts Grenache and Syrah, the 2017 Old Vine Rose is rock-solid. Orange blossom, spice, and plenty of dried earth/salty minerality emerge from this Provençal, clean, classic dry rosé that's ideal for drinking over the coming summer months. (6/2018)

Marietta's 2017 Rosé Old Vine is terrific. Aging in neutral oak, with lees stirring, adds a good bit of textural resonance to play off the crisp fruit. The Rosé is a blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache. (AG) (4/2018)

A bright and fresh rosé that strikes a lovely balance between ripeness of fruit and acidity. Sourced from old vine fruit across multiple California appellations, the varietals are composed of Syrah, Grenache, and Grenache Gris. Aromas are initially of lilies, peaches, red cherries, and light red fruits. On the palate, flavors of watermelon, fresh herbs, and mineral notes on the finish. Texturally, the wine is lifted by an elevated acidity that both crisp and refreshing but also accented by ripe red fruit notes. A truly delightfully fresh and vibrant wine that will be sure to be a customer favorite!

Marietta Cellars has access to some of the oldest vines in California, and the wines reflect the complexity and depth that come from that heritage. The 2017 release of OVR or "Old Vine Rosé" is a blend of Syrah, Grenache Noir and Grenache Gris, and will please any Rosé lover. Pleasant aromatics of ripe watermelon, guava and tangerine might lead one to believe the palate will be fruity, but a tangy, balanced acidity and a rocky minerality keeps everything fresh and light.

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.
