2001 Paul Chapelle & ses Filles Puligny Montrachet Hameau de Blagny

SKU #1345450

This small, family-owned Burgundy domaine flies somewhat under the radar. It's surprising though given that founder Paul Chapelle was one of the most respected consulting enologists in the region during the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s with a portfolio of clients including Simone-Bize, Ramonet, Lafarge, Hubert de Montille, and Domaine de la Pousse d'Or. He began bottling his own pieced-together holdings in the mid-70s, and eventually passed the reigns to his son in the late 90s. In turn the domaine is now stewared by his granddaughter, Christine Beck Chapelle since 2009, who applies rigorous dedication to the farming and overall quality. These are classic and refined wines, emphasizing elegance, purity of fruit, and minerality. The wines are often held back after bottling and only released from the estate only after having a little time to develop in the estate cellars. This is especially beneficial in the case of the “Hameau de Blagny,” a Puligny made from the estate's oldest, gnarled vines (some over 80 years) in Puligny. It is concentrated and powerful, and rewards those who give it time to unfold its muscular grace as it matures.
