 I was blown away by the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Yves Cheron les Dentelles. Made from 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah aged all in cement, it’s a big, rich, full-bodied beauty that’s loaded with notions of kirsch, blackberries, toasted spices and white pepper. I opened this last night and WOW what a surprise! This little Côtes du Rhône is drinking beautifully right now. Everything is perfectly integrated at this point in time. The nose is so expressive with ample black fruit, spice, and minerality. On the palate, it is pure elegance with silky perfectly integrated tannins with a delicious acid/minerality balance. Very smooth. A steal at this price. Definitely load up on this beauty before it's gone. At this price, this is an ideal everyday red.

This is a surprisingly complex Cotes Du Rhone for under 13 dollars. Named for the Dentelles de Montmirail, the strikingly jagged limestone mountain range that surrounds the vineyards of Southern Rhone Valley, this wine is loaded with minerality. With a higher proportion of Grenache than Syrah, the wine is approachable and soft, with subtle aromatics of lavender and black cherry, white and black pepper, and a pleasantly smoky finish.

A perfect wine for those willing to venture into the "old world" but not still fully committed to do so. Full of dark berries and soft tannins but with plenty of the Rhone spices and elegance. A Coq-au-Vin will be delicious with it, also a Basque Chicken, roast duck, Gratin Dauphinois and how about a decadent dish of Goose stuffed with prunes?

This wine is yet another example of why I'm such a fan of Rhone reds. Wines like this certainly over-deliver at the price and this medium-to-full-bodied blend of Grenache and Syrah is packed with earthy, peppery red and black fruit along with pleasant tannins and a touch of rusticity on the finish. Meats and cheeses with this one.

I continue to be surprised by the $15 and under Cotes-du-Rhones from 2015. Expecting rich, sweltering wines, I continue to find them exceptionally balanced with soaring aromatics and bright fruit. The Yves Cheron displays a bright, floral nose with blackberry notes and forward acidity that brightens the fruit on the palate. I was especially pleased that the wine had just a touch of tannic structure to frame everything and bring the wine together. At its price point, this is definitely my favorite Cotes-du-Rhones on the shelf.

This is a lot of wine for $12.99. The nose is composed of blackberry coulis and black cherry with a spicy, white pepper and violet note thanks to the Syrah. Dry and full of complexity, this wine has great length. The cement aging leaves it bright and clean with wonderful acidity and great fruit on the palate. A really beautiful wine for everyday drinking.

Delicious aromas of soft, bruised fruit with a violet edge, this wine has great concentration and a lot of flavor without being too heavy. I would consider this wine to have a touch more body than a lot of catch-all Cotes-du-Rhones, which makes it super fun and versatile.

A boisterous and delightful style to say the least, this Grenache-Syrah blend captures the essence of both the region and the quality of the 2015 vintage. Composed of fruit around Vacqueyras, Beaumes de Venise and Gigondas, the wine is named for the famous jagged limestone monoliths along the ridge of the Montmirail, the "Dentelles." Packed with flavors of raspberry coulis and peppery spices, the wine is open and inviting, giving you sweet fruit and length. It is a worthy wine of the region which harkens to some of the best that producers like St. Cosme and the Perrin family create.

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country.
