2010 En Tirage Extra Brut Blanc de Blanc Carneros Sparkling Wine

SKU #1337299

A particularly rare California sparkling wine produced by Don Baumhefner who had been inspired by late disgorged Bollinger to let his wines rest "en tirage" for years. The San Francisco Chronicle's Esther Mobley fell in love with Baumhefner's 1992 and was excited to report in December 2017 that he had released another wine he discovered in Lake County that had come from a vineyard in Carneros. Mobley writes: "The 2010 Blanc de Blancs smells heady, wafting sweet bread dough. It’s rich, nutty and creamy, and more direct than Baumhefner’s 1990 and 1992 vintages. As it sat in the glass, it began to show more lemon curd."

All the Chardonnay that comprises En Tirage is sourced from Beckstoffer Las Amigas Vineyard in Carneros, which is renowned for producing concentrated fruit with bright acidity. This Method Traditionelle sparkling spends seven years on the lees, which imparts a creamy richness and complexity, and the Extra Brut finish ensures the quality of the vineyard shines through. Delicate white florals and a subtle hint of custard lead to a dry, yet creamy palate with a very long finish.
