2015 Paloumey, Haut-Medoc

SKU #1336627 92 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark From a grand estate whose owners also have vines in Margaux and Moulis, this wine is well proportioned and dense. Rich tannins and concentration are just part of what will become a generous, full wine. With great black-currant fruit and acidity to match, this structured wine will need to age. Outer quote mark Violets and cassis married with rich, dark berries and hints of iodine, all leading to a palate that has smooth, layered tannins in pastry-like mode. Rich plums to close. Inner quote mark (2/2018)

Outer quote mark The 2015 Paloumey replicated its strong showing at the Cru Bourgeois tasting last year. If anything, the aromatics have meliorated to offer red cherries, raspberry and rose petal scents. The palate is crisp and taut, the acidity well judged with impressive tension towards the red cherry and strawberry finish. This is just a delightful Cru Bourgeois that will give a lot of pleasure. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux. (NM) Inner quote mark (3/2018)

Outer quote mark From the southern part of the Médoc (which is the sweet spot in 2015), the 2015 Château Paloumey offers a kiss of oak in its ripe red and black fruits, lead pencil shavings, cedar and saddle leather aromas and flavors. This ripe, medium-bodied 2015 has beautiful fruit, a balanced texture, light tannin, and a great finish, and it’s unquestionably one of the many hidden gems in the vintage. Inner quote mark (11/2017)

A rich, full bodied wine, very representative of the vintage: Ripe fruit alongside ripe tannins that creates a very balanced wine. I would advise to put it in the cellars for at least another 5 years or a good decanting now to fully appreciate its charms.
